Why your dock is a spider magnet

It isn't bad luck - it's the location. Your dock sits over calm, humid water, in the shade, next to bug-friendly vegetation, with lights that burn after dark. Those lights pull in mosquitoes, midges, gnats, and mayflies by the thousand. Spiders simply follow the food. The lift cables, spindles, ladder, and door frames give them the perfect anchor points, and by morning the webs are strung across your boat and walkway. Knock them down and they're back in a day, because the food source never left. The only thing that actually works is treating the structure on a schedule through the season - not once, and not just the house.

What we treat on the water

Everything between your house and the shoreline.

Timed to how you actually use the place - so the dock is clear when your guests arrive, not the week after.

The dock spider program

A schedule built for the water - not a one-time spray.

Spider pressure at the Lake runs on a season. We treat to match it, so the webs never get a foothold in the first place.

  • 01Timed to the season. We start as the weather warms in spring and run through the fall, heaviest in peak summer when spider pressure is highest - often every two weeks in July and August. You pay for what the water actually needs, not a flat year-round route.
  • 02Safe around the water. We use products chosen for the waterfront and apply them where spiders travel and harbor - not broadcast into the lake. Safe around your family, pets, and the fish.
  • 03The whole footprint. House, garage, seawall, dock, and boat house on one plan, so pests don't just relocate twenty feet and come back.
  • 04Your technician, by name. The same familiar face who learns your dock and your schedule - not whoever's on the route this week.

Marinas, condo docks & commercial waterfront. HOA and community docks, resort marinas, and commercial slips have more structure, more lighting, and more foot traffic - which means more spiders and more liability. We build recurring programs for marina operators and dock associations across the Lake, on one invoice, kept clear for the season. Ask about a commercial waterfront quote.

Dock spider questions, answered

Are dock spiders dangerous?

The big spiders on a Lake dock are dock spiders - also called fishing spiders. (Most folks call them wolf spiders, but true wolf spiders are ground hunters you'll meet in the yard, not out on the water.) Dock spiders are large, fast, and alarming to look at, but not aggressive and not a serious medical threat to a healthy adult. They'll bite if trapped against skin, and the bite is roughly a bee-sting level of pain. The real problem is volume: the webs, the mess, and guests who won't walk out on the dock.

Are dock spiders poisonous?

Nearly all spiders have venom to subdue prey, but dock spiders aren't considered medically dangerous the way a brown recluse or black widow is. If you're worried about which spider you actually have, that's exactly the kind of thing we identify on the first visit.

What's the difference between a dock spider and a wolf spider?

They're often confused - but the spider on your dock is almost always a dock (fishing) spider, not a wolf spider. Dock spiders live right at the waterline and can even skate across the surface to hunt; wolf spiders are ground hunters you'll find in yards, garages, and around the house. Either way, the fix is the same: control the insects drawing them in, and treat the structure they harbor on.

When should I start dock treatment?

Before you see them. Getting on a schedule in spring, as the water warms, keeps the population from ever building - which is far easier than beating it back in July. If you're already overrun mid-summer, we can knock it down fast and then hold it.

What about automated misting systems?

Some owners ask about the installed misting systems you'll see advertised at the Lake. They can work, but they're a bigger commitment and not the right fit for every dock. We'll give you a straight answer on whether a recurring dock program or a system makes more sense for your setup - no pressure either way.

Do you treat the boat itself?

We focus on the dock, lift, boat house, and surrounding structure - the places spiders anchor and hide. Keep those clear and the boat stays clear, because there's nothing drawing them onto it.
