Dock spider season at the Lake: when to treat

Dock spiders run on a calendar. Get ahead of it and you barely notice them all summer; wait until the webs are everywhere and you’re playing catch-up in the heat. Here’s how the season actually moves at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The season, month by month

Spring (roughly April-May): as the water warms and the first insect hatches come off the lake, spiders emerge and start staking out the dock. This is the cheapest, easiest time to get ahead of them. Early summer (June): populations ramp fast as bug pressure climbs. Peak (July-August): the worst of it - warm nights, heavy insect swarms under the lights, webs back within a day of clearing them. Fall (September-October): pressure tapers as nights cool. Winter: largely dormant; the dock gets a break.

Why starting early beats catching up

It is far easier to prevent a dock population than to beat one back. Treat in spring, before the numbers build, and you’re maintaining a clear dock all season instead of fighting an established infestation in ninety-degree August. Owners who wait until they’re overrun always spend more effort for a worse result.

How often a dock needs treating

Through the peak of summer, a Lake dock generally needs attention about every two weeks to stay genuinely clear - the insect pressure is just that relentless. In the shoulder months of spring and fall, a lighter, roughly monthly cadence usually holds it. You’re matching the treatment to the season, not paying for a flat year-round route.

Book your dock before the season starts

The move is to get on the schedule before spring, so the first treatment lands as the spiders emerge rather than after they’ve moved in. Our dock spider program is timed to exactly this curve - heavier in peak summer, lighter in the shoulders. Get your dock quote and we’ll put you on the calendar.
